A tribute song for someone you lost
Make a tribute song for your dad, your mom, a grandparent or a friend who passed away, on your iPhone, iPad or Android phone. Tell MusicTune AI their name and what you want remembered, or write the words yourself, choose a quiet style and a mood such as Reflective or Serene, and it writes the lyrics, sings them and produces the music. You get two versions, usually in about a minute, to play at a family gathering or listen to on your own. The first creation is free, and you can take your time.

How to make a tribute song
- Install MusicTune AI on your iPhone, iPad or Android device and open it. No sign-up needed.
- Tap Create and stay in Simple mode.
- Under Describe your song, write up to 300 characters: their name, who they were to you and what you want remembered. “A gentle folk song for my dad, Tom, who passed away in March: his garden, the Sunday pancakes, how he hummed while he drove, and that he told us to keep going.”
- Pick a Style: tap All styles for Folk, Classical piano, Soul or Choral. Pick a Mood such as Reflective or Serene.
- Tap Create song. Two versions, usually in about a minute. Read the lyrics before you play the song to anyone; if a line isn’t right, change the description and try again, or write the words yourself.
In your own words
When every word has to be yours, switch to Custom mode. Type or paste the lyrics under Lyrics, up to 5,000 characters: a poem you wrote, what you said at the service, the lines you never got to say. MusicTune AI sings them as written. Give it a Title, pick the Style and Mood, choose the Voice (Female, Male or Auto), set the Tempo to Slow, and arrange the sections so the chorus carries their name.
Not sure where to start? Write with AI (MusicTune Pro) drafts verses from a few notes, and you edit every line before the song is made. For music with no words, under a slideshow or a reading, turn on Instrumental.
From a photo of them
Pick a photo of them in the app and MusicTune AI writes a song inspired by it: the scene, the light, the mood of the picture. Photo songs have no style, voice or tempo choice and take a minute or two. If you want the lyrics to name them and tell their story, Simple mode with your description is the better route. More on the song from a photo page.
Ideas
- For your dad or mom: their name, the things they always said, the place you picture them in.
- For a grandparent: the stories they told, the recipe, the language they spoke; in Custom mode the words can be in that language.
- For a friend: the road trips, the inside jokes, the things only the two of you knew.
- A song around the psalm or the prayer they loved, written out in Custom mode; see the worship song page.
- Their name in every chorus, for the anniversary of their passing; see a song with a name in it.
- A quiet instrumental for the photo slideshow at the family gathering.
- For a pet you lost, with their name and their habits; see the song about your dog or cat page.
Good to know
- The song is public by default. Songs made in Simple or Custom mode appear in the public Explore feed, where other people can find and play them. Only MusicTune Pro members can switch Show in Explore off, and only when they create the song. Anyone with the link can open it. If you don’t want it in Explore, use Pro and switch Show in Explore off before you tap Create song.
- The AI writes original lyrics from your description. Read them before you play the song to anyone; a line can land wrong, and an unusual name can be pronounced differently. When every word matters, write them yourself in Custom mode.
- It can’t recreate their favorite song or a hymn’s melody, there is no audio upload, and there are no celebrity or sound-alike voices. Descriptions can’t use artist names.
- Our Terms allow personal, non-commercial use: a family gathering, a memorial at home, a personal post that isn’t monetized. They don’t grant commercial rights, and Pro doesn’t add them.
- In Simple mode the song is written and sung in your app language (13 are available). In Custom mode your own words are sung as written, in any language.
Tribute song FAQ
Can MusicTune AI make a tribute song for my dad who passed away?
Yes. Describe it in Simple mode, up to 300 characters, with his name, who he was to you and what you want remembered, pick a quiet style and a mood such as Reflective or Serene, and the AI writes the lyrics, sings them and produces the music. Or write the words yourself in Custom mode (up to 5,000 characters) and it sings them as written. Two versions, usually in about a minute, on iPhone, iPad and Android.
Will it use his name and our memories?
The AI writes the lyrics from the details you enter, but it isn’t guaranteed to sing the name, and an unusual name may be pronounced differently. Read the lyrics in the app before you share the song. If you want every word exactly right, write your own lyrics in Custom mode and MusicTune AI will sing them.
Can I write the words myself?
Yes. In Custom mode, type or paste your lyrics under Lyrics, up to 5,000 characters, and MusicTune AI sings them as written. You choose the style, mood, voice and tempo, so a slow tempo and a Folk, Classical piano, Soul or Choral style keep it gentle.
Can it make a song from a photo of them?
Yes. Pick a photo in the app and the AI writes a song inspired by it, in a minute or two. Photo songs have no style, voice or tempo choice, so if you want the lyrics to name them and tell their story, describe it in Simple mode instead.
Can it sing their favorite song or a hymn?
No. MusicTune AI writes an original song; it can’t reproduce an existing song’s melody, there is no audio upload, and there are no celebrity or sound-alike voices. You can write out a psalm or a verse you choose in Custom mode and it sings those words to new music; see the worship song page.
Is the song private?
Not by default. Songs made in Simple or Custom mode appear in the public Explore feed, and anyone with the link can open the song. Only MusicTune Pro members can switch Show in Explore off, when they create the song. See are my songs private.
Can we play it at the memorial or post it?
For personal use, yes: send the link, play it at the family gathering or post it on a personal account that isn’t monetized. Our Terms don’t grant commercial rights, so no monetized YouTube or TikTok, no streaming releases, no ads and no business use.
Which languages can it be in?
In Simple mode the song is written and sung in your app language; 13 are available: English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Turkish, Arabic, Japanese, Indonesian, Chinese, Tagalog and Korean. In Custom mode your own lyrics are sung as you wrote them.
How long does it take?
Usually a minute or two, and you get two versions. In most cases you can start listening while the song is still being made.
Is it free?
Your first creation is free and gives you two versions. After that you can watch a short ad for a free creation once every 12 hours (when an ad is available), or use MusicTune Pro or a song pack. See pricing.
