Make instrumental music with AI

Generate instrumental music with AI on your iPhone, iPad or Android phone: a beat with no vocals, a backing track to sing over, ambient music for studying, a cinematic theme for a home video. Describe it in a sentence, switch on Instrumental, pick a style and a mood, and MusicTune AI produces a full-length track, two versions, usually in about a minute.

How to make an instrumental track

  1. Install MusicTune AI on your iPhone, iPad or Android device and open it. No sign-up needed.
  2. Tap Create. In Simple mode, describe the music in up to 300 characters, for example: “A slow, warm lo-fi beat with soft piano and vinyl crackle, for studying late at night.”
  3. Switch on Instrumental (“No vocals — music only”).
  4. Pick a style from 300+ styles in 11 categories, such as Instrumental and Ambient, Soundtrack, Cinematic and Thematic, Electronic and Dance, Hip Hop and Rap, or Classical and Orchestral, and a mood: Joyful, Melancholic, Reflective, Energetic, Romantic, Serene, Mysterious, Whimsical, Inspirational, Angry, Suspenseful or Random.
  5. Tap Generate song. You get two versions, usually in about a minute, and can start listening while they’re being made.

In Custom mode the Instrumental switch is there too, with the tempo (Slow, Medium, Fast or Auto) and a section-by-section structure editor, so you can shape an intro, verses and a drop without any lyrics.

Ideas

  • A study or focus track: ambient or lo-fi, Serene or Reflective, 2 to 5 minutes long.
  • A beat to write a rap over. When the words are ready, paste them in Custom mode and the AI sings or raps them on a new track.
  • A backing track for your own singing, in the key the AI picks; try both versions.
  • A cinematic theme for a family video or a slideshow on a personal account.
  • Party music in a style your playlist is missing, from cumbia to drum and bass.
  • A calm piece for bedtime, or a loop-friendly ambient track for a game you’re making for fun.

Good to know

  • Tracks are full length, usually 2 to 5 minutes. There is no song-length setting and no exact BPM: tempo is Slow, Medium, Fast or Auto.
  • Instrumental tracks are for personal, non-commercial use, like every song made in the app. Our Terms don’t grant commercial rights, so no monetized YouTube or TikTok, no stock-music sales, no ads, no business or client videos, no streaming releases.
  • Style descriptions can’t use artist names, and there are no sound-alike voices (there are no voices at all on an instrumental track).
  • Songs made in Simple or Custom mode appear in the public Explore feed by default; only MusicTune Pro members can switch that off.
  • MP3 download needs MusicTune Pro. Stems and MIDI are available for your own tracks: see stems and MIDI.
  • The app interface is in 13 languages (English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Turkish, Arabic, Japanese, Indonesian, Chinese, Tagalog and Korean); for an instrumental track the language doesn’t matter.

Instrumental music FAQ

Can MusicTune AI make music with no vocals?

Yes. In Simple or Custom mode, switch on Instrumental (“No vocals — music only”) before you tap Generate song. You get two full-length versions, usually in about a minute.

Can I make a beat and rap over it?

Yes. Make the instrumental first, write your lyrics, then paste them in Custom mode: the AI raps or sings them on a new track in the style, mood, voice and tempo you choose. The beat and the vocal track are two separate songs.

Can I set the BPM or the length?

No. Tempo is Slow, Medium, Fast or Auto rather than an exact BPM, and tracks come out 2 to 5 minutes long with no length setting.

Can I use the music in my YouTube videos?

On a personal account that isn’t monetized, yes. Our Terms allow personal, non-commercial use only, so monetized channels, ads, client work and stock-music sales are not allowed, on any plan.

Which styles are there?

More than 300 styles in 11 categories: Electronic and Dance; Rock and Metal; Pop and Mainstream; Jazz, Blues and Soul; Hip Hop and Rap; Classical and Orchestral; Folk and Traditional; Instrumental and Ambient; Experimental and Avant-Garde; Cultural and Regional Styles; Soundtrack, Cinematic and Thematic. Styles are picked from the list; you can’t type a style of your own.

Does it work on Android and iPhone?

Yes. The same features are on iPhone and iPad (iOS 15 or later) and on Android (7.0 or later). There is no web or desktop version.

How long does it take?

Usually a minute or two, and you get two versions. In most cases you can start listening while the song is still being made.

Is it free?

Your first creation is free and gives you two versions. After that you can watch a short ad for a free creation once every 12 hours (when an ad is available), or use MusicTune Pro or a song pack. See pricing.
