How to make an afrobeat song
- Install MusicTune AI on your iPhone, iPad or Android device and open it. No sign-up needed.
- Tap Create and stay in Simple mode.
- Under Describe your song, write up to 300 characters: who it’s for, the vibe, what the hook should say. “A feel-good afrobeat song for Ada’s 30th birthday, with her name in the chorus, about her laugh, her jollof and how she owns the dance floor at every wedding.”
- Tap All styles, search for “afrobeat” and pick it (it’s under Cultural and Regional Styles); Afro house, African beats and Afro-funk are there too. Pick a Mood such as Joyful, Energetic or Romantic.
- Tap Create song. Two versions, usually in about a minute, with lyrics, a title and cover art.
The AI writes the lyrics and the title from your description, in your app language. Read them before you share: it isn’t guaranteed to use the name, and the hook may not land where you pictured it.
Your own lyrics, in your own language
When the words matter, write them yourself. Switch to Custom mode and type or paste them under Lyrics, up to 5,000 characters. MusicTune AI sings them as written, so write in English, in Pidgin, in French or in any language, and mix them if that’s how you talk. Give the song a Title, choose the Voice (Female, Male or Auto) and the Tempo (Slow, Medium, Fast or Auto), and lay out the verses and the hook section by section in the structure editor.
No lyrics yet? Write with AI (MusicTune Pro) drafts them from your notes, and you edit every line before the song is made. Spell names and local words the way they sound and check both versions.
Afrobeat, Afro house, African beats or Afro-funk
- Afrobeat for the sound most people mean: feel-good, mid-tempo, made for singing along. Say the rest in the description: a laid-back groove, a chant in the hook, horns.
- Afro house for the party and the dance floor.
- African beats when the percussion should lead.
- Afro-funk for the classic horns-and-groove feel.
All four are in the Cultural and Regional Styles category, one of 11 categories with 300+ styles in all. Styles are picked from the list; there’s no box to type in a style of your own. Turn on Instrumental for a version with no vocals.
Ideas
- A birthday song with their name and the stories everyone tells about them. The Birthday template has no style choice, so for afrobeat use Simple mode with the name and the age in the description.
- A wedding entrance song with both names, for the couple’s walk-in or the first dance. Same thing: the Wedding template has no style choice, so describe it in Simple mode and pick Afrobeat.
- A song with their name in every chorus, written yourself in Custom mode.
- A song for Mom or Dad with their name for Mother’s Day or Father’s Day, or for no reason at all.
- A send-off for a friend moving abroad, a graduation song, a naming-ceremony song with the baby’s name.
- An anthem for the group chat, one line per person, in Custom mode.
Good to know
- It can’t imitate an artist. There are no celebrity or sound-alike voices, and song descriptions can’t use artist names. The AI writes an original song in the style you pick; describe the sound instead of naming who it should sound like.
- In Simple mode the song is written and sung in your app language; 13 are available, including English, French, Portuguese and Arabic. In Custom mode your own words are sung as written, in any language.
- There’s no audio upload or import: it can’t add vocals to your own beat, or remix, split or remove vocals from a song made elsewhere. Songs are made from a description, your lyrics, a photo or a template.
- There’s no BPM or song-length setting; songs are full length, usually 2 to 5 minutes. Tempo (slow, medium, fast or auto) is set in Custom mode.
- Songs made in Simple or Custom mode appear in the public Explore feed by default; only MusicTune Pro members can switch off Show in Explore when they create a song. Anyone with the link can play it, so keep a surprise song to yourself until the day.
- Our Terms allow personal, non-commercial use: the party, the reception, the family group, a personal account that isn’t monetized. No releases on Spotify or other streaming services, no monetized YouTube or TikTok, no business use, and Pro doesn’t add commercial rights.
Afrobeat song FAQ
Is there an AI app to make an afrobeat song?
Yes. MusicTune AI makes an afrobeat song on iPhone, iPad and Android: describe it in Simple mode (up to 300 characters) or write your own lyrics in Custom mode (up to 5,000 characters), pick Afrobeat as the style and a mood, and the AI writes, sings and produces it. Two versions, usually in about a minute, and the first creation is free.
Which afro styles does it have?
Afrobeat, Afro house, African beats and Afro-funk, in the Cultural and Regional Styles category. There are 300+ styles in 11 categories, picked from a list (tap All styles and search); you can’t type in a style of your own.
Can it sound like my favorite afrobeats artist?
No. There are no celebrity or sound-alike voices, and song descriptions can’t use artist names. The AI writes an original song in the style you pick; describe the sound you want instead.
Can it sing in Pidgin, Yoruba, Twi or Swahili?
In Custom mode your own lyrics are sung as written, in any language, so write them in Pidgin, Yoruba, Twi, Swahili, French or a mix. Spell local words the way they sound and check both versions, since some words may be pronounced differently. In Simple mode the AI writes in your app language; 13 are available, including English, French, Portuguese and Arabic.
Can I make an afrobeat birthday song with their name?
Yes. Describe it in Simple mode with the name, the age and the stories, and pick Afrobeat; or write the lyrics yourself in Custom mode so the name lands in every chorus. The Birthday template takes the name and age but has no style choice.
Can I make a wedding entrance song with our names?
Yes. Describe the couple, the story and the moment in Simple mode and pick Afrobeat or Afro house, or write the lyrics in Custom mode. The Wedding template has no style choice, so use Simple or Custom mode for the afrobeat sound. Playing it at the reception is personal use.
Can I upload my own beat or remix a song?
No. There is no audio upload or import, so it can’t add vocals to your beat or remix, split or remove vocals from a song made elsewhere. It makes new songs from a description, your lyrics, a photo or a template. Turn on Instrumental for a beat with no vocals, and create stems (vocals, drums, bass, other, instrumental) from songs made in the app.
Can I post it on TikTok or release it on Spotify?
A post on a personal account that isn’t monetized, yes. Our Terms allow personal, non-commercial use only: no releases on Spotify or other streaming services, no monetized YouTube or TikTok, no ads and no business use. Paying for Pro doesn’t add commercial rights.
How long does it take?
Usually a minute or two, and you get two versions. In most cases you can start listening while the song is still being made.
Is it free?
Your first creation is free and gives you two versions. After that you can watch a short ad for a free creation once every 12 hours (when an ad is available), or use MusicTune Pro or a song pack. See pricing.
